so much lighter now

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I have a job lined up now for when my contract ends with Lakeshore. Yay! I knew I wouldn’t get stuck without a job, I was just getting more and more panicked as the days went by without something definite. So as of Monday, May 12th, I will begin my new job at CandyRific where they design and sell novelty candy for kids. And best of all it’s a permanent position. I will be doing all the administrative work as well as some creative photo editing for brochures to the clients. I’m so excited! I will actually get to put all those art classes I had to take for my degree to good use.

Now that I have a job lined up, I’ve shifted my apartment search to include areas closer to where the new job is. I have an appointment to go see a couple of places tomorrow that would only be a few blocks from work. If I decide to get one of the two apartments, my plan is to dig out my old bike from my parents garage and ride it to work. That would save me some money on gas since right now the gas prices just continue to climb. (Of course it would also be healthier for me too) But both of these places are also just down the street from
Seneca Park which usually stays pretty busy with dog walkers, joggers and local sports leagues.

With spring time also comes the opening of
Churchill Downs for the Spring Meet and of course the first Saturday in May is the Derby. For the last week and a half and most likely the rest of this month, I’m helping out Russ in his office with payroll. I am solely in charge of the payroll for Churchill. They have a ton of people working out there and the way Churchill wants their invoices done, the employees hours have to be put in each day. It only takes me a couple hours each night and it is nice to have a little extra money coming in. It does take a lot of attention though which is why they designate one person only to enter everything. Luckily, Churchill is a seasonal account. I handled the Fall Meet which was the last week or so of October and all of November and can happily report that there were no problems. Woohoo! So I’m hoping for a repeat there because when payroll is covered and goes smoothly, Russ is less stressed which is always good.

On that note, things between Russ and I are still kind of up in the air. He’s trying to give me some time to figure out what I want even though he isn’t all too happy about that. I don’t know where things will go for us. I don’t want him completely out of my life and he has assured me that won’t happen but I don’t know if we can get back to a point where we’re both happy…with each other. Right now it just seems that our timing is off.

play it again!

I wish I could relive this weekend over again, Saturday night in particular. The day began pretty hectic though. I was supposed to meet with Andrea, a bride to be in May. I am photographing her wedding next month so we got together to go over things to make sure it was all covered. She gave me directions to her and her fiancĂ©’s house but they were way off. She’s from North Carolina and although she has lived in Indiana for a couple of years now, she doesn’t venture out much to know her way around well. I finally got to their house about and hour past our scheduled meeting time but we did get everything covered.

That evening I had a bridal shower to attend for one of the girls at work, A.
The shower was to start at 6pm and then the bachlorette party would begin at 8pm. We all had a great time at the shower, ate, played games and then started primping to go out. We went to Flannigan’s, a smaller local bar for the bachlorette party and had a wonderful time.

a day of randomness

I feel like I've been doing a lot of complaining lately , well maybe most of it is in my head. Anyhow, there have been some highlights and good times over these last couple of months. I guess I'm just still playing catch up. Back in the middle of March I had one particularly good week. I went to two different concerts that week.

On Monday, March 10, I went to see Bret Michaels perform at Caesar's Casino. Of course Amy went with me but also Angie from work also joined us. We got to get fairly close but the lighting in there was so dark that the pictures didn't turn out the greatest.

It was another one of those great blast from the past, sing along to every song, type of concerts. We had a blast.

After the concert, Angie and I made pit stop up to the room (at the casino hotel) to drop off our cameras and stuff before heading downstairs to gamble.

I'm sad to report there were no big winnings. :( Good thing we got a smiling picture before hand. On Friday, March 14, I took my mom to the Michael Buble concert. I had originally been given the tickets as a gift from Russ. The week before the concert, I asked him if he was still going with me and he said that in light of everything that had been going on between us, he didn't feel like I would want him there. He had already volunteered to work out of town that weekend. So I had to find someone else to go with me. I invited my mom because I thought she would enjoy the music and plus she's never been to a real concert. (Outdoor State Fair ones don't count)

It turned out to be a great time and mom had a lot of fun. We were a little ways back from the stage, so again, not any wonderful pictures. If nothing else, it serves as proof I was there. On a side note, I added some pictures to some of the older posts. I added a few to the reunion and a couple to rock on.

It’s been a long, long week this week. I am so glad its Friday! I had an interview earlier this week on Tuesday. It went well but they are asking a lot for the position. There would be overtime every week, an occasional late night, and some Saturdays. I’m not sure that is what I want to get into. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not afraid of a little work, I just feel like I’ve already got a lot of things going on right now. Why add fuel to the fire?

So again, thank god it’s the weekend. Plus, tomorrow is Thunder. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and not be rainy. What is Thunder? It’s
Thunder Over Louisville and it is awesome!

“The World's most unique fireworks and light extravaganza, Thunder Over Louisville has been the largest show of its kind in America for the past ten years. It remains the largest annual pyrotechnics show in the United States.”

If you ever get the chance to see it, it’s an absolute must! Everywhere you look there are fireworks and if you’ve chosen a spot along the
Waterfront, you can feel the ground rumble beneath your feet. It even echoes in your ears. There’s even a theme to which music is coordinated. This year is Out of this World.

The whole day kicks off with The Air Show. “The Air Show dazzles the crowd with more than 100 planes, aerobatics teams, daring sky diving groups and breathtaking stunts. And the amazing technology of the United States Air Force, Navy, Army and Marines are always crowd favorites.” My favorite is the B2 Stealth. You can see the list of planes that will be flying over Louisville on Saturday
here.

From there it’s basically a day of relaxing and hanging out. I have a “Thunder Wagon” which is nothing more than a little red metal wagon that I load all my stuff into. A cooler of food and drinks, old blankets and sheets to sit on, perhaps a fold out chair and a radio. I normally have a goodie bag of stuff to do as well whether it’s a deck of cards, a book, Frisbee, etc. Load everything on the wagon, strap it down and head for the Waterfront. When the weather is good it always makes the day so much more enjoyable. Unfortunately, I think it's going to be rainy and cold tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'm going to brave the weather or not but if I do, I'll report how it went. ;)

on the job hunt again

There aren’t any posts that talk about how much I like my job but I really do. I started this job in the beginning of January. I was hired on as a temp to work in the staffing office internally while the recruiter, KC, was on maternity leave. Originally, I was told it would be a three month assignment. I knew that coming in to the position but I was told there was a possibility that KC would extend her maternity leave a little. Not that I don’t want KC to come back, I’ve seen her on several occasions when she’s stopped by the office. I’ve even gone out with all the girls from work a couple of times to jewelry parties or birthday parties and such. But once she gets back, A, the girl that has been filling in the recruiting job will take over her old job…my job.

They have told me on several occasions what a great job I’ve been doing and at one point discussed getting me a raise and keeping me on full time. This morning, J (the senior staffing manager) told me that it looks like they will be able to keep me till the end of this month when A gets back from her honeymoon.

So I just updated my resume yesterday and its back to the job search again. On the plus side to this, I’m already familiar with a lot of the clients here so I have an inside scoop on upcoming jobs. And I know the managers here will give me great references. It just sucks because I would prefer to stay here.
